Magazine with articles and news publications about enameling

I went to the local art supplier at s’Hertogenbosch, de Kwast, to buy some materials. However, they did not have any enamel; only cold enamel was in stock. From this cold enamel I made some art pieces.
I was not satisfied with the results. The studio where I take lessons in the art of stained glass are in the possession of a big enamel kiln and an assortment of enamel powders. When they heard about my enamel adventures they allowed that I used their enamel materials. So this was the start of my enamel hobby.
I made some small art pieces and with some of them there went something wrong. However I persisted and these “accidents” made my interest in the art enameling only bigger. Copper was to expensive for me and I search for alternatives. Steel was a good replacement for copper.
Also with this material there went things wrong. Sometimes before I was at home from my art lessons the glass was cracking of my art piece. At these moments I thought to stop with this art.
However, the next morning I started over again with experimenting. Then I went to my shed and turned on my enamel kiln to experiment further. I was in the process of making a tie of steel in several colors. When I tried to enamel the curve of the sides of the tie then the enamel powder felt from the side. I got the idea to make some glue from sugar dissolved in water. This glue worked well. It worked also on a temperature of 750c till 800c degrees.
Then I made some shoes from steel. The examples were from my grandchildren. First I made a template of cardboard. Then I made the steel hot and made it in shape with a hammer.
When I visited the internet I saw the studio of Ingrid Doubleey design. I went on workshop enamel and learned a lot about steel, glue and so on. I was very happy with this because the enameling went much better. I gained a lot more pleasure in enameling en made a dozen butterflies and a boat as you can see.
At this moment I’m in the process of another art piece with copper material and I purchased another kiln. When I master this new kiln and material then I will make more art pieces.
Have a lot of enamel pleasure, Jan vd Wal
